BEAUTY

I want to create beauty. My soul wants to create beauty. I am beauty.

I was just sleeping at work. I can tell

Because my mouth feels like it has

been drooling.

I’m not in control of most of my body, but my brain

And my soul have combined to produce a kind of fluid functioning.

Watching me function is like watching a waterfall,

     which is like me drooling

which is what I can’t control when I sleep.

I also have trouble controlling my heavy desire to

Create beauty.

I always think—

What is Beauty?, what is Beautiful?

I think humanity is a beautiful thing—

     I say thing because

what is humanity?

Humanity is a clumsy patriot fighting for naiveté and goodness. All actions

And thoughts, secular and spiritual, are humanity because they come from our

Quiet and blundering experience.

Humanity is beautiful magnificent

Even if sometimes we lose our way

(we kiss thorns)

      There’s beauty in that, too.

There’s beauty in our effective struggle.

Beauty is not created, it’s lived in. or lived.

                  I suppose.

I hope I’m not being too emotional but lately I’ve been able

To access the the deepest ocean parts of how I feel or

How I’d like to feel. Before yesterday,

Being vulnerable was like rubbing my face on the

coarsest grained sand paper

just to get at an itch.

  1. Beauty is good remedy for depression and other ills. It feed the psyche. I find it in nature and art. I also think it's a miracle that we each were even born. The whole arrangement is mind boggling. I like your thinking.

  2. Hi, Jack. This delves into many things we take for granted. Like your, or the poet come to mind, writing the physical body is lagging behind the brain and soul. I've spent over an accumulated time more than a year's time nursing mine. Limbs and insides become more fragile with the coming of old age. Doctors and modern medicine have saved my life or made those ails more bearable.
Thanks for peeking in on me and for your nice comment, I hope you'll stay with the Pantry and try the Muse for mostly the same group.

  3. Beauty is wonder. And to want and need to create it is a great trait to have. Beauty--when we find it in all things--grows and spreads, and like Colleen says, it also feeds.

  4. The desire to create beauty is exactly why I decided, as a very young child, to spend my life making poems.

  5. Yes, of all entities, humanity is the most beautiful and connecting people.
